Panutsa, also called peanut brittle is a delicacy that is a hit among the people of Batangas. It is commonly sold in buses for inbound or outbound trips to the province and in stalls around Batangas. Here is how you can make and enjoy it at home.
Ingredients:
2 cups of peanuts (skin removed)
2 cups sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. butter
2 tsp. baking soda
1 cup water
1. Heat the water, sugar and syrup in a pan and stir occasionally until the sugar dissolves.
2. Add salt and cook over medium heat until the mixture is sticky.
3. Add the peanuts until cooked while stirring often.
4. Remove from heat then quickly stir in butter and soda.
5. Pour into a well-buttered pan and spread using a spatula.
6. You may break up the brittle when it has completely cooled.
